Having read the other two books in the series, Saint was the natural choice. I have been an avid follower of Dekker's work ever since i was told to read Chosen. After starting, I realized that this did not in any way seem connected to the previous book. That all changed come chapter five. David Abraham, an operative character in Showdown appears. From the way things sounded, it was several years after Showdown had ended. Carl, a trained and highly talented killer, turns out to be none other than that innocent little boy Johnny from Paradise. The source of his power over the zero-point field comes all the way back from Showdown: "Johnny picked one of the pens, reached over to Darcy's book, and wrote as fast as he could [...] Johnny was given great powers to destroy Billy... He scratched out Billy. ...Anyone who stood in the way of truth.
Never before had I found such a direct connection between the series of an author until this book. There are so many situations which draw on info only a reader of Dekker's other series could understand. The Identity of Englishman, David Abraham, and at the center, The Books of History. In every series I have read by Dekker, all are connected through these Books of almost magical power.
